New rider alert: Jack Makohon joins EF Education-Aevolo

Texan earns spot on our development team

November 13, 2025

Jack Makohon is EF Education-Aevolo’s latest recruit.

The 20-year-old Texan brings European race experience, climbing talent, and determination to our development team roster. He’ll continue to build his strength and skills next season, as he works toward his dream of becoming a WorldTour pro.

“I'm very excited,” Jack said. “For my first two years in the U23s, my goal was to step up to a WorldTour development team that could provide support and structure to advance my career and help me get better as a cyclist. This is something I have been working toward for a long time, so I'm really excited to step up. It'll be a good group of guys, so I am super excited.”

Jack wanted to be a bike racer ever since he was a little boy, traveling around his home state to watch his dad compete. He grew up in Heath, Texas, on the outskirts of Dallas, where there was a strong cycling community. Going to local races to cheer on his dad made him want to pin on numbers himself. Soon he was racing against the best kids in the state.

“Texas has a good racing scene,” Jack said. “It was great, growing up in the juniors, going to the local races. My dad used to race at an amateur level around Texas, so, when I was a kid, I was following him around to different races. That gave me the bug. I started with real basic racing as a junior and worked my way up from there, from local stuff to across the state to national level, and then eventually to Europe. I loved going to the races and going on little rides around my neighborhood with my dad. It just went from there.”

Jack was always a fierce competitor, but his first love has always been going out on the roads to explore.

“I love getting to see new places on the bike,” he said. “Through cycling, you see a lot of cool places that you wouldn't see as a tourist. You go off the beaten path and can get out in the middle of nowhere, which is often really cool. One of my favorite things to do is to go on long rides and discover the local landscape and meet new people. I love that aspect of cycling.”

Next season, Jack will live in Girona, Spain, where he will hone his climbing speed on the local mountains and travel around Europe with the squad to compete. He has already shown that he can hold his own in professional races. EF Education-Aevolo Head Sports Director Mike Creed is excited to watch Jack progress in 2026.

“I’ve had my eyes on Jack since he was a junior and am really happy to bring him on,” Creed said. “The thing I have been impressed by from Jack so far is his consistency. Every year, he gets a few percent better. I think he's in that category of guys who are good as juniors and first year Under-23s even though they might be competing against guys who matured a little quicker. He has shown really consistent growth. The way he handled himself at the Tour of Portugal this year was really impressive. That’s a notoriously hard race. He’s a good climber who doesn’t shy away from aggressive Ardennes-style stuff. He had a rough start to the year with some crashes last season, but bounced back and got into some pretty big races and never really seemed out of his depth.”

Jack is impressed by the structure that EF Education-Aevolo has established and is confident that our squad is the best place for him to improve. He is looking forward to working with Creed.

“Being an American, I have known Creed for a while,” Jack said. “I really like the way he directs and really respect his style. He has a good track record of developing riders and not burning out kids by putting them in a pressure cooker and demanding results instantly. I'm really excited to be able to work with him and everyone else who is a part of the team. I think they're really committed to development and putting together a good pathway toward the WorldTour.”

Jack is committed to getting the best out of himself. He knows that it is a process and will focus on the day-to-day work of improving as a racer.

“It is just a matter of staying consistent in training and continually improving and not letting any distractions get in my way,” he said. “I want to stay disciplined and focused toward that goal of going pro. That'll be the best way to get success next year.”

Once the flag drops, Jack is ready to go toe to toe with anyone. Last season, he took on WorldTour pros for the first time and wasn’t intimidated.

“My favorite part of racing is just trying to be the best version of myself I can be pushing myself to new levels,” he said. “That’s something that only comes out in racing, when you have that competitiveness with other people and get to dog it out against each other. That really lifts me to a new level. I love using that competitive fire to build myself to become better.”

Welcome to the squad, Jack. We think 2026 is going to be your best year yet.
