EF Education-Aevolo returns to the Giro d'Italia Next Gen
The squad heads to Italy for its second appearance at the race
June 13, 2026
This weekend sees the start of the highly anticipated and prestigious Giro d'Italia Next Gen, with the U23 Italian stage race running June 14-21.
EF Education-Aevolo will have a dynamic squad on the start line of stage 1 in Reggio Calabria as we chase stage wins across the eight-day race, and potentially ride ourselves into the GC.
With three summit finishes, an individual time trial, and plenty of terrain that suits our aggressive style of racing, the six-rider roster is eager to leave its mark on the race.
Tomos Pattinson, Jack Makohon, Miguel Ángel Marín, Noah Streif, Jenthe Verstraete, and Linus Larsson make up the team, and Head Sports Director Mike Creed is keen to see all the riders step up and take their opportunities.
“Noah hasn’t been given a chance to ride for GC since he’s joined the team, so this is a really good chance for him. He’s been racing well this year, and at the Alpes Isère Tour, he was almost in that first group before finishing 15th overall. He was probably strong enough to make the front group, but we didn’t want him bringing other riders back into contention; the form is there. We’re not putting that much pressure on him, but we want to see him test himself when it comes to the GC,” Creed said.
“With the rest of the team, we don’t have a pure sprinter, but all the guys, with the exception of maybe one or two, have really good kicks on them, so in the small group sprints and the breakaway we should have plenty of cards to play. I don’t see there being that many bunch sprints happening, to be honest,” he added.
In terms of depth and quality, the Giro d'Italia Next Gen will represent a step up for the EF Education-Aevolo riders, as it is one of the most hotly contested stage races on the team’s calendar. However, the riders are well prepared, having raced consistently through the first few months of the season, and several riders on the roster have already been called up to make scheduled appearances with the WorldTour team in order to continue their development.
“The race a bit longer than what they’ve done this year by maybe a day or so, but the guys have been racing against high-level competition all season. Going there with a really stage-hunting team and a potential GC option is a strong position to be in ahead of the race, and we’re going to try and make the most of this opportunity,” Creed said.
