EF Education-Aevolo have opened their season in impressive fashion, returning from Greece with a strong collection of results and growing confidence across the squad.

Racing a packed program of one-day events and the Tour of Rhodes stage race, the team delivered consistent performances that earned a general classification podium, a best young rider’s jersey, and an overall team classification, laying down an early marker for the months ahead.

For Head Sports Director Mike Creed, the trip was incredibly worthwhile and successful, with almost the entire roster involved in the campaign, and plenty of valuable experience gained for the remainder of the season.

Tomos Pattinson got us going with sixth and the young rider’s jersey in the first race, and that really set our tone for the rest of the trip. Of course, you always have some tough times on a trip like this, so crashes hampered our chances in the next two races, but we bounced back well in the Tour of Rhodes, and I’m really proud of how the riders committed to the plan and got the most out of their opportunities during the race,” Creed said.

On the opening day, prologue at the Tour of Rhodes, Peyton Burckel finished just outside the top-ten in 11th and on the crucial final stage, which would decide the race, the team raced aggressively from the gun with Juan Felipe Rodriguez and Joshua Golliker both going on the attack.

The pair would go on to finish third and fourth on the stage and assume those results in the final GC standings, with Juan Felipe taking third and the team’s collective hard work landing them the team classification.

“The team really showed what they were made of on that final stage, and their performance really exemplified what EF Education-Aevolo are about. The riders lit that final stage up from the start, and on the final climb, both Juan and Josh were in the mix. Third and fourth, those results are a real tribute to how strong this team is. There are still elements for us to work on, like our positioning in some points, and there was some illness running through the peloton, so bouncing back from those setbacks is really good to see,” Creed said.

“This was a really solid start to our season, and while we didn’t take an outright win, there’s still a lot to be pleased with. Our performance in Greece bodes well for our next race in Portugal later this month,” he added.
